– FIGS | INCIR –

Predating the domestication of wheat, figs have been cultivated since as early as 9000 BC. Today, Turkey leads the world in production of figs with over twenty-five percent of the world crop. Turkey’s Aegean region is known for yielding the highest quality figs. The most common variety, Brown Turkey, has purple skin and red flesh.  In season from June to September, figs are served fresh, cooked and are preserved. Fig jam is common breakfast accompaniment.
