Hand-Painted Saint Sophia | El Boyalı St. Sophia

Saint Sophia the Martyr (died 137 AD) is venerated in the Eastern Orthodox Church on September 17. Born in Italy, Sophia had three daughters: Faith, Hope and Love named after virtues mentioned by Saint Paul in 1 Corinthians 13. This reproduction of an antique Byzantine masterpiece was made using traditional materials and techniques including aged timber frames, egg tempera, 24K gold leaf, natural powder paint.
