Pomegranate, nar in Turkish, is one of the first cultivated fruits. Some believe the forbidden fruit from the Garden of Eden was pomegranate. Native to the Mediterranean and in season from August to December, pomegranate is commonly grown throughout Turkey. Although pomegranate is primarily cultivated in Turkey’s Anatolian and Aegean regions, wild pomegranate can even be found in the Black Sea region. Pomegranate is a highly featured ingredient in Turkish Cuisine. Pomegranate seeds are commonly served in desserts & salads. Pomegranate sauce is used to marinate meats & to dress salads. Pomegranate blossoms are used to brew tea. Pomegranate juice is a common street cart refreshment.
